Cherish the Ladies is an all woman quintet that began performing 30 years ago, and has out over 10 studio CDs. Led by flute and whistle player Joanie Madden, the band always features fiddle, accordion, other strings, keyboards and vocals from one of the Celtic world's finest singers--a full show of Irish music, song and dance. On March 18, singers with Cherish the Ladies will be The Ennis Sisters, a fine new vocal trio from Newfoundland.
Dancers in the Cherish show will include new dance phenomenon Jason Oremus, of both Riverdance and Hammerstep (as seen on America's Got Talent) along with another Irish world champion, Garrett Coleman. Jason was the male lead for Riverdance, and Garrett has also danced with Riverdance. Also in the show is Julie Fitzgerald, an accomplished fiddle player and step dancer from Bancroft, Ontario. She is a 2-Time Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion, as well as 2-Time Open Step Dance Champion. Since her early days of old-time fiddle, she has diversified and become an accomplished fiddle player of many styles. She is a member of the family group "Everything Fitz: the Fitzgerald Family." Julie has been in high demand for as a performer, and in the Cape Breton tradition, she fiddles and dances at the same time! She has danced internationally with many of her lifelong musical 'idols' including Leahy and Natalie MacMaster.
Also added to show: Liz Carroll on fiddle, one of the Irish world's finest who was last here with Altan a year ago. Guests are in addition to the fine sounds of the band itself, so a total of 12 performers will be on stage!
The video shows the band with symphony and many dancers.
Cherish visits here on the closest weekend night to Saint Patrick's Day and at Tucson's top downtown venue for listening; plus a full bar is available.
